When a man visited the Wartburg Castle, where Martin Luther was exiled, he noticed a black spot on the wall. When he asked the guide about the story behid the spot, he was told that Luther was overly depressed over the guilt of his sin.
One night, he dreamed that Satan came with a long scroll of his sins, from birth to the present day. Satan would name each sin, and then mock him, saying, “…and you serve God?”
As Luther read the list, his terror and guilt grew. Finally, Luther roused himself from sleep and said, “It’s true Satan, and there are many more sins that only God can see.”
Luther then wrote at the bottom of the list, “The blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth me for ALL sin!:
He then grabbed the ink stand and threw it at Satan.
Thus, the ink stain.
I need to remember this!
